Following its recent FDA clearance, Hyperfine has announced the first commercial sales of its next-generation Swoop portable MR system.

Two hospitals in the northeastern U.S. have purchased the updated system, which incorporates the company’s proprietary Optive AI software.

The Guilford, Connecticut-based company said the hospitals plan to use the new system in intensive care units and emergency departments. The upgraded model offers improvements in image quality, including enhanced resolution and faster scan acquisition times, which the company attributes to a higher signal-to-noise ratio and software advancements.

"This marks the start of a new phase for Hyperfine — one where our vision to transform MR access is driven by a new system that is commercially ready, is clinically valuable, has outstanding image quality and functionality, and is garnering strong customer interest,” said Maria Sainz, president and CEO of Hyperfine.

The Swoop system is an FDA-cleared, ultra-low-field MR platform designed for bedside brain imaging. According to the company, it is approved for use across all age groups and is aimed at facilities where conventional MR access is limited or impractical.

In its second generation, the Swoop system maintains a mobile footprint and features a design intended to accommodate a wider patient population, including pediatric and geriatric patients or those with anxiety.

Hyperfine, which trades under the ticker HYPR, said the sales mark a significant step in the broader clinical rollout of portable MRI technology. The company also signaled expectations for continued commercial momentum in the latter half of 2025.
