GE HealthCare has launched a new digital X-ray system designed to address efficiency challenges in high-volume imaging environments.

The Definium Pace Select ET, a floor-mounted unit, is now commercially available and integrates automation features intended to reduce physical strain and streamline in-room workflows for technologists.

With radiology departments facing ongoing staffing shortages and high burnout rates — particularly among technologists — the system is designed to assist by automating repetitive tasks and simplifying image acquisition.

"Burdened with the stress and pressure to keep radiology departments running smoothly and profitably, we aim to empower technologists with a system that consistently makes the first image count,” said Sharad Sharma, global general manager of X-ray at GE HealthCare.

The system incorporates GE HealthCare’s Helix Advanced Image Processing, which uses artificial intelligence to help reduce image variability and ensure consistent image quality. Its Intelligent Workflow Suite provides features such as automated patient positioning, protocol selection, collimation, and pre-exposure quality checks to minimize setup errors and streamline the imaging process.

The Definium Pace Select ET is built on GE HealthCare’s existing Definium platform but brings those capabilities to a floor-mounted configuration with an elevating table, in-room controls, and a standardized user interface. While floor-mounted systems typically serve as a lower-cost alternative to overhead tube suspension models, GE HealthCare says this system delivers comparable image quality.

“This launch reinforces our commitment to provide accessible, efficient, and high-quality care for patients, while alleviating stress from the technologist’s workday,” said Jyoti Gupta, Ph.D., president, and CEO of women’s health and X-ray at GE HealthCare.

The system was developed based on feedback from technologists and radiology departments, and is intended for use across a wide range of clinical settings and patient populations.
