Ascension Saint Thomas has received approval from the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission to build a full-service hospital in Clarksville-Montgomery County, the next step in expanding its regional health system.

The $148.5 million project will be developed on a 96-acre site near Highway 76 and Interstate 24. The facility will open with 44 inpatient beds and be designed for future expansion up to 132 beds. The hospital will be part of an integrated health campus and is expected to generate about 250 healthcare jobs.

Services planned for the facility include emergency care, inpatient surgery, cardiology, women’s health, and a neonatal intensive care unit. The site will also house outpatient services such as ambulatory surgery and advanced imaging. The project is intended to reduce travel time for residents who currently drive up to 50 miles for specialty services like maternity care and surgery.

In addition to the hospital, the health campus will include on-site offices for Tennessee Oncology and Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, as well as a new EMS station to help address local emergency response needs.

“This approval marks a pivotal moment for Clarksville and Montgomery County,” said Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas. “Our new hospital and health campus will deliver essential services closer to home, improving access and outcomes across the region.”

Based in Nashville, Ascension Saint Thomas currently operates more than 300 care sites across Middle Tennessee, including 14 in Montgomery County. The organization began serving the Clarksville area in 2005 and has gradually expanded its local footprint.

Following the certificate of need approval, Ascension Saint Thomas will begin design and development work in collaboration with elected officials, community leaders, and partner organizations.
