Philips announced plans to invest more than $150 million into expanding its U.S. manufacturing and R&D operations, adding to its existing $900 million annual research investment in the country.

The new funding will support several facility expansions, including the company’s Reedsville, Pennsylvania site, which produces AI-enabled ultrasound systems. The site will gain an additional 24,000 square feet for manufacturing and 40,000 square feet of warehouse space. Philips expects the Reedsville expansion to add 120 skilled manufacturing jobs. Once complete, the facility will also begin customizing ultrasound system software for specific clinical uses in cardiovascular, maternal and general care.

The Dutch health technology company, which has a U.S. headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, also confirmed the investment includes its previously announced project in Plymouth, Minnesota. That expansion involves growing its image-guided therapy operations and constructing a new medtech training center, with an expected addition of more than 150 jobs.

“These expansions are a demonstration of our deep commitment to the U.S. region,” said Jeff DiLullo, chief region leader of Philips North America. “Each year, Philips spends $900 million in R&D in the U.S. to drive innovation and deliver cutting-edge technology that empowers healthcare professionals to diagnose, treat and monitor patients more effectively.”

According to the company, Philips operates in all 50 states and employs nearly 17,000 people across 40 U.S. facilities. Its technologies are currently in use at 90% of hospitals across the country.

The company did not provide a timeline for when the additional manufacturing and R&D projects would be completed but said the new investments are intended to support its long-term growth in the U.S. market.
