GE HealthCare has signed an agreement to acquire icometrix, a Belgium-based company specializing in artificial intelligence-powered brain MR analysis for neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The icobrain platform, icometrix’s flagship offering, provides radiologists and neurologists with tools to detect and monitor neurological diseases using quantitative MR analysis. Among the solutions is icobrain aria, which holds FDA 510(k) clearance as the first AI-based tool for identifying and measuring Amyloid Related Imaging Abnormalities (ARIA) — side effects associated with amyloid-targeting therapies used in Alzheimer’s treatment.
GE HealthCare plans to integrate icobrain into its existing MR systems and platforms, including its deep learning technologies such as AIR x Brain, AIR Recon DL, and SONIC DL 3D. According to the company, this integration is aimed at improving workflow efficiency and enabling clinicians to manage increasing imaging volumes without sacrificing diagnostic accuracy.

“This effort marks a pivotal step in our journey to advance precision care in neurology,” said Roland Rott, president and CEO of imaging at GE HealthCare. “By integrating icometrix’s AI-powered insights with our advanced imaging technologies, we aim to empower care teams with the clarity and confidence needed to navigate complex neurological conditions.”
GE HealthCare also intends to expand access to icobrain aria across different MRI systems, including those from other vendors, through both direct sales and clinical integration.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Leuven, icometrix also collaborates with pharmaceutical companies on clinical trials, real-world evidence generation, and market access.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
