GE HealthCare has launched two new ultrasound systems in its Voluson portfolio, the Performance 18 and 16, aimed at streamlining women’s health imaging with enhanced automation and artificial intelligence tools.
The Chicago-based company said the new Voluson Performance models are designed to deliver high-resolution imaging and a more intuitive user experience. Both systems include features intended to reduce scan time and operator workload, while supporting consistent diagnostic performance across a range of obstetric and gynecological applications.
“By putting powerful, advanced solutions in the hands of providers, we’re helping expand access to high-quality women’s health imaging and advance a healthier future for women,” said Gerald Seifriedsberger, general manager of women’s health ultrasound at GE HealthCare.

The systems include a suite of integrated AI tools such as SonoLyst, which identifies fetal anatomy and can automate measurements and annotations on standard views. According to the company, the software can reduce the keystrokes needed to complete second trimester exams by up to 65%. Another feature, SonoPelvicFloor, guides users through pelvic floor assessments and supports consistent imaging results, reportedly up to 75% faster than manual methods.
Other updates include an enhanced touch panel interface, voice-activated commands through “Hey Voluson,” and wireless Vscan Air probes for bedside and interventional use. The platform also supports both 2D and 3D imaging, with automatic gain adjustments and shadow reduction designed to improve image clarity.
Dr. Arne van Heusden, a gynecologist in the Netherlands, said, “The Voluson Performance series makes it remarkably simple to do a 3D scan ... the system is extremely intuitive, which is one of its best features.”
The Voluson Performance 18 and 16 received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and CE Mark certification. GE HealthCare plans to offer the systems in select global markets. The technology will be on display at the ISUOG World Congress taking place September 14–17 in Cancun, Mexico.
