Fujifilm Biotechnologies will begin producing drug substance for argenx’s efgartigimod at its Holly Springs, North Carolina, site starting in 2028, under an expanded manufacturing agreement announced Thursday.
The deal builds on an existing global partnership between the two companies and marks argenx as the first confirmed tenant in the second phase of Fujifilm’s planned expansion at the site. The Phase II buildout will double the facility’s current mammalian cell culture capacity, adding eight 20,000-liter bioreactors to match the existing eight installed during the first phase.
Efgartigimod, a monoclonal antibody fragment, is approved in multiple markets under the brand names Vyvgart and Vyvgart Hytrulo. It is currently used to treat adults with generalized myasthenia gravis and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, both rare autoimmune conditions affecting the neuromuscular system.

The expanded agreement also integrates argenx into Fujifilm’s global kojoX network, a modular manufacturing platform designed to offer flexible, scalable production across sites in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Fujifilm said this model supports a local-for-local supply strategy, with manufacturing sites located closer to patients and markets.
“This partnership with argenx marks our first global end-to-end program in support of a customer utilizing our kojoX modular network of facilities,” said Lars Petersen, president and CEO of Fujifilm Biotechnologies. “By expanding manufacturing in the United States, we will help to meet argenx’ global supply chain needs for efgartigimod.”
Filip Borgions, chief technology innovation officer at argenx, added that the U.S. expansion strengthens the company’s manufacturing footprint and global supply chain. “The kojoX concept enables consistent capabilities across the U.S. and Europe, allowing us to manufacture medicines in the U.S. for American patients while supporting our broader global reach,” he said.
Fujifilm Biotechnologies is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Fujifilm Holdings Corporation. Argenx is headquartered in the Netherlands.
