Five Minutes in Healthcare - Emily Sego

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | October 15, 2025
Emily Sego
Five Minutes in Healthcare is where I discuss current events with some of the industry's most influential leaders.

Today I am joined by Emily Sego, clinical healthcare executive for Nihon Kohden, for a talk about solving the challenge of alarm fatigue – the sensory overload where clinicians become desensitized to the constant barrage of alerts from monitoring devices. It's something that can impact clinicians even after they've left work for the day.

During the interview, Emily and I talk about the importance of alarm standardization and how intelligent alarm management can reshape the landscape of high-acuity settings like ICUs, post-op recovery and emergency departments. We also look ahead at what alarm management might look like in the future.
