Good Samaritan Hospital and its parent company, HCA Healthcare, plan to invest $1.3 billion in a large-scale expansion and modernization project at the hospital’s San Jose, California campus, marking one of the most significant healthcare infrastructure investments in Santa Clara County to date.

The multiphase project is scheduled to break ground in October 2025, and will unfold over several years, with completion expected by 2032. Key components include a new patient tower, a structured parking facility, and upgrades to campus infrastructure. The improvements are aimed at expanding capacity, meeting California’s 2030 seismic safety requirements, and improving patient flow and access to care.

Once completed, the hospital will add 234 inpatient rooms, bringing its total operating bed count to 339. The project will also provide 658 new parking spaces, 265 of which are designed to be electric vehicle scalable. In total, the expansion will add over 715,000 square feet of new construction.

“This is a major step toward ensuring our ability to provide high-quality care to a growing community,” said officials with Good Samaritan Hospital. “The project supports not only modern healthcare delivery but also the long-term safety and resilience of the facility.”

The initiative is expected to support approximately 1,550 construction jobs and ultimately serve more than 147,000 patient encounters annually, including about 70,000 emergency room visits.

The project will proceed in three main phases: construction of the parking structure, development of a central utility plant, and the build-out of the new patient tower. Hospital leadership emphasized that the development is designed to serve the long-term needs of Santa Clara County residents by increasing access to services and upgrading clinical infrastructure in compliance with evolving state regulations.

HCA Healthcare is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Good Samaritan Hospital operates under the HCA Far West Division.
