Community Health Systems has agreed to sell its majority stake in a Clarksville, Tennessee, hospital to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in a $600 million deal expected to close in early 2026.
The Franklin, Tennessee-based company announced that its subsidiaries will divest their 80% ownership interests in two joint ventures that own and operate the 270-bed Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville and related ancillary businesses in the region. Vanderbilt, which already holds a minority stake in the joint ventures, will acquire full ownership as part of the transaction.
This transaction was one of several potential divestitures previewed during Community Health Systems’ third-quarter 2025 earnings call and referenced in later public statements. Leerink Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor to Community Health Systems for the deal.

Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville is the latest in a series of asset realignments for Community Health Systems, which continues to adjust its portfolio amid ongoing operational and strategic reviews. The company currently operates 70 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites across 14 states.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, based in Nashville, has been expanding its regional presence through targeted acquisitions and partnerships in recent years. The move to assume full ownership of the Clarksville facility aligns with that strategy.
Neither organization disclosed plans for leadership, staffing, or service line changes at the hospital following the transition.
