Ascension Saint Thomas is investing more than $537 million in a multicounty effort to expand and modernize its healthcare facilities across Middle Tennessee.
The investment, backed by recently completed tax-exempt bond financing, targets key upgrades and new construction projects aimed at increasing access to care, accommodating population growth, and improving clinical infrastructure.
The Nashville-based health system is focusing its capital plan on Davidson, Rutherford, and Montgomery counties, with projects that range from hospital expansions to the development of entirely new facilities.

In Davidson County, Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown and West hospitals will see upgrades to emergency departments, expansion of inpatient and surgical units, and improvements to public areas. Technology upgrades are also part of the initiative, intended to enhance both clinical performance and patient experience.
In Rutherford County, the system is continuing its buildout in Murfreesboro, including projects at the main campus and ongoing development in the Westlawn and Lascassas areas.
Montgomery County remains the site of a previously announced full-service hospital and health campus in Clarksville. That project is described as central to the system’s broader expansion strategy in one of the state’s fastest-growing regions.
Funding for the regional initiative was made possible through public-private financing partnerships involving state and local governments. Deputy governor and Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development commissioner Stuart McWhorter called the investments “a cornerstone of thriving communities,” adding, “These projects will improve quality of life for families across Middle Tennessee while reinforcing our state’s reputation as a leader in forward-thinking, community-driven growth.”
Saurabh Tripathi, executive vice president and CFO of Ascension, said the investment aims to support both patients and healthcare workers. “By modernizing our facilities, expanding our capacity, and supporting our caregiver workforce, we are ensuring that communities across Middle Tennessee have timely access to compassionate, high-quality care.”
The projects mark a major step in Ascension Saint Thomas’ long-term growth strategy as it continues to serve the region after more than a century in operation.
