Zigma Meditech India Private Limited, in Chennai, India is a company that specializes in the import of preowned medical equipment, especially ventilators, respirators (BIPAP/CPAP), anesthesia workstations, patient monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, dialysis machines, C Arms and Syringe/Infusion Pumps. Zigma, in business for five years, offers both sales and service of equipment.

Rajagapol Geethu is Director of Zigma Meditech. "We refurbish the units at our head office in Chennai, India. The units are calibrated to manufacturer standards and we have an in-house engineering staff of 15 people to do the same."


Geethu's background is in software sales. He was based in the U.S. from 2000-2005, including handling projects in a Tulsa, OK hospital. Geehtu had the opportunity to be involved with the facility right from the time it was being built and to meet many equipment dealers/sales representatives. Geethu's stay in the U.S. and relationship with the suppliers also helped Zigma establish rapport and credibility.

The company has a domestic Indian market. The list of customers boasts many major names in India including most of the hospitals in Southern India. Geethu says that Zigma has a vast network of associates all over India through whom it sells and supports the equipment. The company provides a comprehensive warranty to the end users and after the warranty period, service contracts. About 80% of Zigma's purchases are in the USA from reputable companies and the balance of 20% is done from suppliers in Europe.

DHL Global provides the company with warehousing facilities in Chicago before the equipment is sent to India. In India, Zigma maintains an inventory and warehouse.

In service, Zigma emphasizes its trained staff, around 25 employees. The staff calibrates the equipment and maintains complete records from the time of purchase until the equipment is under service contract. This enables Zigma to handle regular preventive maintenance service to ensure the equipment is in perfect working condition.

Geethu explains that Zigma's strength includes its wide network of associations -around 15 in India, a large installed base of ventilators, the ability to support customers and dealers with service and spares, and finally its adherence to complete transparency in operations. "We never compromise on business ethics - we'd rather lose a sale by saying the truth than get it by compromising our values. In a market where lot of used/refurbished equipment is sold in the name of demo equipment, we clearly identify our equipment as used/refurbished."

Zigma's business has been growing at about 45% every year for the last four years. In the opportunities of today's business world, Zigma has taken advantage of services such as DOTmed to establish ties with vendors and suppliers, who otherwise would have been difficult to reach. The DOTmed Certified status shows to the rest of the world that Zigma is a company which can be relied upon. "It has been our endeavor to honor our commitments each and every time and we feel that the DOTmed certification is a recognition of these values." Zigma hopes that its certification will motivate others to become certified, and start establishing norms for the sale/service of refurbished medical equipment in India.
