MUSC Health and Clemson University have begun construction on a new medical facility on Clemson’s main campus, with the three-story complex expected to open in fall 2027.
The project will replace the existing Redfern Health Center, which was built in 1969, and expand the scope of health services available to students and the campus community. MUSC Health will operate student health and medical services in the new building, continuing services currently provided through Clemson’s Student Health Services, which is accredited by The Joint Commission.
The planned 90,000-square-foot facility will house primary care, counseling and psychological services, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services, as well as allergy and immunization clinics and telehealth capabilities. The design also includes advanced imaging, employee and occupational health services and a human performance research center.

In addition, Prisma Health will maintain a presence in the building. A sports medicine and ambulatory surgery center will be operated by Prisma Health Blue Ridge Orthopedics.
Dr. David J. Cole, president of the Medical University of South Carolina, said the project reflects collaboration between the two institutions. “MUSC Health’s partnership with Clemson University brings together two institutions committed to elevating the student experience and strengthening community well-being,” he said. “This new facility reflects our shared vision to deliver an exceptional care experience and lays the groundwork for future innovations together.”
Clemson University interim president Bob Jones said the facility will expand access to care for students and the broader community.
University officials said the expanded footprint is intended to support both clinical services and academic collaboration between the Charleston, South Carolina-based MUSC Health system and Clemson, which is based in Clemson, South Carolina.
