OhioHealth and Nationwide Children’s Hospital have broken ground on a new outpatient medical campus in Ontario, Ohio, expanding access to primary, specialty and pediatric care in north central Ohio.

The 42,000-square-foot facility will be built on West Fourth Street at the current OhioHealth Ontario Health and Fitness Center campus. The project represents a $38.4 million investment and is expected to consolidate a range of outpatient services in one location.

The Columbus, Ohio-based health systems said the new center is intended to improve access to coordinated care closer to home for patients and families in the region.

OhioHealth plans to provide adult primary care, obstetrics and gynecology services, and advanced imaging, including mammography. Nationwide Children’s Hospital will offer specialty clinics, laboratory services, radiology, audiology, rehabilitation therapies and pediatric primary care.

In addition to the new building, OhioHealth said it will renovate its existing Ontario facility to create a specialty care hub with additional providers and expanded services. Current offerings at the campus include urgent care, occupational health services, imaging, therapy services and a public fitness center. Officials said those services will remain operational during construction.

“This groundbreaking represents more than a new building. It’s a promise to this community,” said Curt Gingrich, M.D., president of OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals. “We are investing in the future of care in Ontario by bringing more services, more access, and more support for families right here at home.”

Libbey Hoang, vice president of planning and business development at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, said the project is designed to streamline access to pediatric and specialty care for local families.

“By expanding our presence in Ontario alongside OhioHealth, we’re able to deliver coordinated, specialized pediatric care in one location,” Hoang said.

The two organizations already partner to provide pediatric and neonatal services at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Construction on the Ontario campus began following a May 6 groundbreaking ceremony.
