Community Health Systems is among the largest for-profit hospital operators in the United States. According to the company, its subsidiaries own or lease 60 affiliated hospitals with more than 8,000 beds and operate more than 800 sites of care across 12 states. Those facilities include physician practices, urgent care centers, freestanding emergency departments, imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers and other outpatient services.
The hospital sale continues a broader trend of health systems reshaping their portfolios through acquisitions and divestitures as organizations seek to align assets with strategic and financial priorities.
Freeman Health System, the buyer in the transaction, is a regional healthcare provider headquartered in Joplin, Missouri. The acquisition expands its presence in northwest Arkansas, one of the fastest-growing regions in the state.
