The staff at Colossus Medical
Mary Firkin handles online sales and manages the office of Colossus Medical in Grayson, GA. Firkin was recently DOTmed Certified, a measure of achievement developing from her work which began at Colossus two and a half years ago. Firkin began working at Colossus while on break from graduate school learning Medieval Studies. As an undergraduate, Firkin had majored in English and minored in Journalism.
Firkin keeps the small business running at optimum efficiency, through organization such as keeping records updated, invoiced, maintaining customer service, and handling databases of persons who handle specific equipment. "We focus on the customer," Firkin says. "I keep the customer informed to understand the condition of the equipment and what they are getting." Firkin's varied background and broad range of interests helps wear many hats at Colossus, such as helping to design brochures. The best part of Firkin's multitasking is "being able to see the impact you can directly make for the customers and the companies."

Chris Bridges is President of Colossus, and Firkin's proud boss. Bridges has 16 years in the business. Colossus is basically involved in two customer bases: asset liquidation, where they turn surplus into cash; and procurement, helping dealers procure the equipment for refurbishment and retail sales on the market.
The company helps clients such as hospitals, who have a budget target, to turn around and buy new or upgraded equipment. The facility may need to liquidate equipment on hand or stored. Hospitals need to stay on the cutting edge, and Colossus helps realize the funds to gain that edge. The company deals in all types of equipment, particular to what helps the facility, including imaging, surgery and lab equipment.
Bridges says what sets his five-person business apart from competitors is the company's attitude and people. Bridges believes strongly in the principles of the Golden Rule. The effort to satisfy the customer pays off as an investment in positive action. All the employees have substantial experience and Bridges has developed a contact list to expand sources for better purchasing. Colossus also offers liability insurance, which many businesses do not; that gives clients piece of mind.
Bridges notes a trend that less-expensive new equipment is being manufactured in Asia and becoming popular in Central and South America--and might well create an economic impact domestically. Therefore, being on top of the game in customer service and satisfaction, and expanding the client base, are major priorities. DOTmed has contributed to Colossus' rapid development in the last few years, giving the company exposure to new contacts overseas. The new Certification also offers instant credibility for prospective clientele.
