Sunday, October 19 was not just a typical weekend day--it was the date for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk of the American Cancer Society on Staten Island. The walk raised over $620,000 to fund research promoting outreach to encourage early detection of breast cancer and to support those with breast cancer.
DOTmed.com employees helped out by contributing to the $7,000+ raised by Team Martinelli. Kirsten Zajaczkowski and Jaclyn Alessi of DOTmed took part in the walk to support two close friends and cancer survivors -- Evelyn and Annette Martinelli.
"It was a beautiful Sunday and there was a sea of pink at the start of the walk," said Kirsten, an executive assistant at DOTmed.com. "We definitely had a devoted team. It was a great show of support to find a cure."

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 35. The ACS estimates that about 40,480 women will die this year from breast cancer in the United States.
