Elite Medical Enjoying its Growing Reputation

by Astrid Fiano, DOTmed News Writer | December 03, 2008
Phyllis and Teddy Cohen are
the team behind Elite Medical

Teddy Cohen told DOTmed News that his company, Elite Medical of Staten Island, NY, has been around for five years, and Cohen himself has been in the medical field for 24 years. As Elite Medical progressed during the past few years, Cohen determined the company's specialization was becoming infusion pumps. These devices are very much in need and also much in demand within the refurbished market.

"We sell to a lot of teaching institutions, veterinarians, hospitals--many repeat customers." Cohen says. He added that first and foremost with Elite Medical is standing behind the products and services.

The pumps are refurbished before going on the market in order to be patient-ready for an end user. Cohen explains, "For refurbishing, the product goes through testing and based on the testing procedure, we can see what the unit needs to be brought up to date and see what the customer needs." The company offers a 90-day warranty, and in the typically heavy usage that time it usually suffices to see if the product will hold up. Elite also can arrange an extended warranty.

Elite has five employees in technical and sales positions, including Cohen's wife, Phyllis, as Vice President. The clients are mostly domestic, with some international business, and the business is growing considerably. Cohen attributes this to Elite's growing reputation.

Cohen's success is built upon many years of dealing with physicians, knowing what they need and visiting many offices for face to face conversations. Now a majority of business is developed on the internet and communication is over the phone. However, Cohen's experience in establishing a comfort level in communication serves him well. Elite's reputation is proven by the references received, Cohen says, as evidenced by Elite's place on the DOTmed 100.

Cohen has heard nightmare stories about shady outfits selling medical equipment. Clients need to be careful about whom they do business with. Cohen feels being DOTmed certified and on the DOTmed 100 carries a lot of weight with a potential customer. Even when someone is doing an internet search for a company, the DOTmed listing will show, and the customer will say how they found you and that they feel secure with having recourse to report those who have unethical practices. But Cohen isn't worried. "We make sure the customers are happy."
