Rush University Medical Center Appoints John Lowenberg as VP of Philanthropy

Rush University Medical Center has appointed John Lowenberg, a Chicago resident, as the new vice president of Philanthropy. Lowenberg will be responsible for major and planned giving, corporate, foundation and alumni relations, and the donor engagement unit in the Office of Philanthropy.

Lowenberg brings significant experience and success through his most recent position as associate vice chancellor for development and associate vice president of The University of Illinois Foundation.

He has had a long career in development at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where he has been since coming to Chicago in 1978. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Cincinnati and his Master of Science degree in athletic administration from Western Illinois University.

After a brief marketing career in professional baseball, John joined UIC as director of marketing and sports information. He then moved into development as assistant athletic director for development, then as associate athletic director for external affairs. In 1990, he was appointed as deputy associate chancellor for development before assuming his current position in 2000. He brings a deep experience in all aspects of development. At UIC he has been overseeing major gifts, corporations and foundation relations, and campaign coordination for UIC's $650 million campaign.
