When Moshe Alkalay opened Hi Tech International Group in Great Neck, N.Y. in 1989, he envisioned celebrating milestone anniversaries of his company one day. On April 15, 2009, he was able to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

"I think we kept a good name, with the same management and we did right by our customers," said Alkalay, founder and president.

Now situated in Boca Raton, FL, after 12 years on Park Avenue in New York City, Alkalay is proud of his business, which deals in CTs, X ray machines, ultrasounds, Cath labs and other equipment.
"It was rough in the beginning, especially those first six to seven months, but one month we bought three or four systems in St. Louis, MO, covered everything and we made money," he recalls. "We have been able to grow by growing our relationships with colleagues, vendors and clients."

Hi Tech International Group specializes in imaging diagnostic systems and has supplied complete hospitals, clinics, departments, single systems and parts.

"It's been growing beautifully but the last two years it's been leveling off and this year has been slower," he said. "There are ups and downs, it's the nature of the business, but we always do things right."

Hi Tech's systems have been sold in over 60 countries worldwide and most are still in use after many years. The key, Alkalay said, is in its strong follow-up.

As for the future of the company, Alkalay is thinking about opening branches overseas, something they tried and failed at once before, but he believes that this time a strong partner will help it succeed.

"We also may be doing more in-house," he said. "That may happen in the next year or two."
