New Smit Röntgen grids
reduce radiation dose
and improve image quality
Dunlee, a division of Philips Healthcare, has introduced a new line of Smit Röntgen grids designed to reduce radiation dose and improve image quality in CR and DR for average-size as well as obese patients. Clinical studies completed at leading medical institutions showed dose reductions from 20-40%.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, some 33% (75 million) of U.S. adults age 20 and over are obese. That fact presents a host of challenges to the medical imaging community. Acquiring quality images of obese patients and holding exposure rates in digital radiography is more difficult than film-screen techniques. Digital image capture is more sensitive to scatter radiation--the larger the patient, the more scatter radiation--which hampers image quality.

Smit Röntgen anti-scatter grids use fiber-interspacing instead of aluminum, allowing for better radiation transmission and less attenuation. To further reduce scatter, the grids are designed with 5mm high lamellae versus the 3mm height used in conventional grids. Best of all, the new grids do not require special retrofit hardware and they are easily swapped into most existing systems.
