ASTRO Announces Fellowships
The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), a 10,000-member organization, announced that 12 of its distinguished members will receive Society fellowships. The recipients will receive their awards in November, during the 51st Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Patricia Eifel, MD, is a fellow and the current chair of ASTRO who also serves as a professor of radiation oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. Dr. Eifel expressed the Society's pleasure that each recipient was deserving of the award. She said, "It is an honor to be able to recognize these outstanding individuals who have devoted their careers to improving the specialty of radiation oncology, the care that cancer patients receive and who also have devoted their free time to serving the Society in leadership roles."

Requirements to become a Fellow for ASTRO include membership in the Society for a minimum of 20 years, service in a leadership role and significant contribution to the field of radiation oncology. The nine-member selection committee for the Society considered four categories of criteria prior to awarding the fellowships: excellence in research, patient care, education and leadership/service.
