The business is owned and operated by
Luigi Mascio, a certified Histotechnologist with a BS degree in Biology. Mascio started in the business as a bench tech, moved up to supervisor, histology program director, and sales representative. In 2002, with the encouragement of his family, he decided to open his own company.
"Medical Equipment Source is where quality, service and experience come together," Mascio said, adding they work diligently to meet the needs of each customer no matter how large or small. "We sell one instrument or even complete laboratory set ups."
Mascio's mission was to establish an organization staffed by knowledgeable individuals in the fields of Histology, Cytology, and general Pathology, to provide quality refurbished and new equipment to labs of all sizes, and to purchase their used equipment.
"It is not only important for me to feel good about the equipment that I am selling, but also to be an active part of the field of histotechnology," he said. "As a company we support and participate in the National Society of Histotechnology."
The company carries all the leading brands such as Leica, Sakura, Thermo Fisher, Shandon, and Microm.
"Histotechs are unique individuals. They have such an important role in patient care. What they do is just not a skill, but an art form," he said. "This field, until recently, has not been highly automated. It takes a quality technician to create beautiful slides for the pathologist to properly diagnose a patient's biopsy."
In just its seventh year, Medical Equipment Source has grown from a local Mid-Atlantic company to one that is doing business all across the U.S. and now even internationally. Mascio attributes his growing customer base to increased advertising on sites such as DOTmed and his collaboration with consultants.
"It is my hope that we will be around for many years to come and continue to be a resource of information and quality equipment," he said.
