Payment network maven Emdeon, Inc. is scooping up document conversion software maker FutureVision Technologies for $20 million cash, the Nahsville, Tenn.-based company reported on Monday.
FutureVision could receive additional cash payments of up to $40 million in the next two to three years depending on how well it performs, according to a statement from Emdeon.
Emdeon hopes FutureVision's software, which converts paper claims to electronic forms, will give it access to nine out of the ten health centers they say still operate paper-based offices.

"With FVTech's capabilities, Emdeon can now automate 100% of the posting for both paper and electronic payments for our provider customers. These capabilities will allow Emdeon to create immediate savings for our customers through automation and help reduce costly errors that commonly occur through manual processes," Emdeon CEO George Lazenby said in a statement.
FutureVision also helps digitize paperwork for manufacturing, insurance and even mortgage loans.
