Unisyn Medical Technologies unveils new ultrasound repair program

by Keith Loria, Reporter | July 01, 2010
Probe program announced
Last November, after acquiring three leading service companies in Barrington Medical Imaging, Sonora Medical Systems and Echoserve, Medical Imaging Holdings, Inc. changed its name to Unisyn Medical Technologies, Inc.

The newly-named company is already making big noise in the industry with its release of an exciting new program that was showcased during this week's Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Conference in Tampa, Florida.

Christopher Cone, President and COO of Unisyn, praises the launch of its probe ConversionTM program, which is much different from the traditional model of ultrasound probe repair.

"Through its legacy company, Sonora, Unisyn invented the retail probe repair business," Cone tells DOTmed News. "In the midst of upheaval in the health care environment, it's only fitting that we're reinventing it here in 2010."

Conversion is the replacement of a damaged ultrasound probe with a fully tested and reconditioned probe at the repair price, offering several advantages to the customer.

"First, instantaneous repair cycle times versus waiting for your probe to be repaired," Cone explains. "Second, a fully reconditioned probe with a comprehensive six-month warranty vs. a 90-day warranty limited to the actual repair performed. Last, guaranteed acoustic integrity as validated by our patented FirstCall array tester and extensive system image quality testing."

Cone says the catalyst for bringing the program to market was listening to its customers' needs and expectations.

"This is a customer-oriented program. Customers want high quality probes and they need them quickly. But customers love the cost advantages inherent to probe repair," Cone says. "Conversion addresses all three of these major demand-drivers."

Cone expects internal customers, such as radiology and cardiology department administrators and site managers responsible for profit and loss, to expect an even lower overall cost of ownership compared with traditional probe repair business models for their ultrasound assets.

Looking ahead, the company has even more exciting things on the horizon.

"Unisyn is the industry leader in ultrasound parts, probes and field service. We're now working on a similar program for the ultrasound parts side of the business that we expect to introduce next quarter," Cone says.
