LCD television giant Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is making its way into the health care market with the help of TeleHealth Services, as it plans to manufacture and distribute televisions for acute care settings.

"Samsung came to us earlier this year wanting to break into the hospital and health care market and strengthen the brand," says Matt Barker, director of marketing for TeleHealth Services.

TeleHealth Services, a 53-year veteran in the business, has been working with Samsung to develop the new line of TVs, the Samsung LCD 458 Series, which are available both in 26- and 32-inch models.

Televisions in health care, explains Barker, require a different design than the conventional TV set. They need to be sturdier and take into consideration infection control and patient comfort. The Samsung model allows patients to have control of the set from their pillow speakers, and the set will work across multiple manufacturers, says Barker.

"Patients expect more from health care facilities and increasingly want access to modern conveniences when they are away from home," said Jonas Tanenbaum, vice president of LCD HDTV marketing at Samsung. "Samsung is excited to partner with TeleHealth Services to deliver solutions that help hospitals enhance the patient experience."
