Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation picked up a prize for its Vantage Titan 3-T MRI system, designed in-house. The wide-bore unit, with a 71-cm opening, also got marks for patient-friendly design.
"Soft design language and bright colors have a comforting effect, thus reducing patient anxiety," Red Dot said.

Other capital equipment winners include SonoScape Ltd., for its self-made S20 ultrasound unit, admired for its ergonomic features and "robust and solid appearance," and Acteon, for its WhiteFox cone beam CT system, made by frog design, a German team that also got a 2011 award for a Storz Medical AG-made lithotripter.
"As always, our jury cast a very careful eye over the products submitted," said Dr. Peter Zec, the Red Dot design award founder, in a statement. "Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market."
