After serving for two decades as CEO and president of ReMedPar, one of the country's leading independent providers of medical imaging parts, Edward A. Sloan Sr., the company's founder, decided to retire in 2008.
Less than a month later, he came out of retirement to establish a private company called Ed Sloan & Associates, which started off as an equipment sales company, selling medical and diagnostic imaging equipment.
"I just really enjoyed the work, it was something I missed greatly," says Sloan, who serves also as a board member of DOTmed.com.

In August 2011 Ed Sloan & Associates was restructured as a parts and equipment outfit, whose main customers are service companies and parts resellers. Regarding the future of the company, Sloan says the main priority will be "continuing into the building of the parts side of the business."
Ed Sloan & Associates, located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, currently employs half a dozen people and brings in about $9 million in annual revenue, says Sloan, who indicates that the company may pursue plans to expand both domestically and internationally sometime in the future. He also suggests that Ed Sloan & Associates might eventually partner up with other businesses, but nothing is set in stone yet.
At the moment, Sloan, who refers to his work as a "hobby," has no plans to retire. "When I think about doing nothing, it's not an option," he says.
