Siemens to acquire MobileMD

by Brendon Nafziger, DOTmed News Associate Editor | November 04, 2011
Siemens Healthcare said Friday it reached a deal to buy health IT firm MobileMD, a company that makes software that could be important to providers as accountable care organizations and other models that encourage care coordination take off. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

MobileMD makes health information exchange software that lets doctors share patient data, such as imaging and lab results, with affiliated physician practices and hospitals that don't use the same HIT systems. The company's flagship program, 4D HIE, is a cloud-based system that helps doc share information along four dimensions: care, economics, technology and service.

The Yardley, Pa.-based company has been selling HIE products since 2005, and its programs are used by two dozen HIEs, which involve 110 hospitals and more than 2,000 doctors' offices, Siemens said.
