This year’s recipient, Dr. Serruys, is Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenterat Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He received his MD from the Catholic University of Louvain in 1972 and his PhD degree from the Erasmus University in 1986. In 2006, he received the highest award of the Clinical Council of the American Heart Association: the James Herrick Award. He is a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Athens.

As an individual, he has been the driving force behind the developing clinical and scientific vision in the interventional community, a teacher and the inspiration of countless PhD students and many others seeking to learn from his experience, and he is also one of the founding fathers of EuroPCR.

The Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest form of recognition bestowed by the Association. It goes to an individual who has made nationally recognized contributions to health care administration, delivery and/or education, advancing the field of medical practice management.
