Get to know who you're dealing with

Dan Herbert,
national sales director for Laser Concepts.
Last week, Dan Herbert was in town visiting some clients. Dan is in the laser business. He's the national sales director for Laser Concepts, based in Dallas, Texas.

There's been a lot of activity on our site about lasers, and there was a shake up in the industry and some companies that ran some red lights. Buying and selling lasers is very popular on DOTmed, and some companies don't always play by the rules. I needed some help learning about the industry and Dan helped educate me so that I could protect our users.

When Dan was in town, I invited him to lunch to show my appreciation for the time he spent with me. We were talking during lunch about the business and the internet. Dan said he sees many companies on the internet, but when you click on their 'about' page, there is nothing. Dan said this makes him nervous because you don't know who you're dealing with and you can't do research on them.

It occurred to me he's 100 percent right: If you do a better job explaining who you are as a company, people are more likely to do business with you.

We think we are good at that at DOTmed because we give our users ways to share their information via our Virtual Trade Show Booths and our Services Directory. Although most people come to DOTmed, I'm sorry that not everyone does. So you might want to take a look at your website and make sure you have adequately described your company, what it does as well as who your key executives are.

If you have any designations that you're proud of i.e. DOTmed certified, DOTmed 100 or if you're an IAMERS member, display that as well.

Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression.
