Pelvic Imaging:
Diagnosing Pelvic Disorders
In many cases, ultrasound (US) is the first appropriate study to evaluate the pelvic area. These studies are useful for certain situations such as evaluation of torsion or ovarian masses.

MRI, and in some cases CT, can be invaluable additions to transvaginal US when chronic pelvic pain is suspected. MRI has excellent soft tissue contrast resolution of the entire pelvic area in a single exam.

Diagnosing Maternal-Fetal Disorders:
DRA offers OB ultrasound to evaluate fetal viability, growth and anatomy, as well as to detect multiple pregnancies.

DEXA for Bone Density Evaluation:
Our radiologists use a tool to assess a patient's risk for hip fracture and other major osteoporotic fractures within 10 years. While heel scans do provide a rough estimate of risk, they can significantly underestimate fracture risk. DEXA is recommended for postmenopausal women under age 65 if they have any risk factors for osteoporosis, and for all women age 65 and older. There are many other indications, as listed on www.iscd.org.
