Breast Services:
Digital Mammography
Digital mammography continues to be the best study for the initial detection of breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue and in premenopausal women. Digital technology shortens the exam time from 20 minutes to about 7 minutes, allowing our breast centers to see more patients and eliminating long waits for routine screenings.

Not only are all mammograms read by our skilled team of mammographers, but we also employ software (CAD) that acts as a second reader by marking abnormalities on the mammogram. Studies show it can increase the detection of breast cancer up to 20 percent.

Breast MRI:
The most common Breast MRI patients are those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. MRI often finds other lesions that change our management of patients, reducing problems down the road. Additional reasons patients come to us for Breast MRI include evaluating skin or chest wall involvement, axillary lymph nodes, blatant abnormalities with negative mammogram and ultrasound, and inconclusive findings on mammogram or ultrasound.

Breast Ultrasound:
Breast ultrasound is used to solve problems found on mammography, study physical findings and evaluate the breast for synchronous lesions in patients with proven carcinoma. Frequently, patients who have an abnormal mammogram will have an ultrasound and biopsy the same day as the mammogram.

Image-Guided Breast Biopsies and Cyst Aspiration:
Needle biopsy achieves a diagnostic accuracy of 99% comparable to open surgery, avoiding surgery in women with benign disease and allowing proper surgical planning for women with cancer.

Image-guided biopsy should be performed for any breast lesion. The most common indication for ultrasound guidance is a palpable lump. Stereotactic guidance is used for findings seen on mammography only, such as calcifications or asymmetry. The biopsy is combined with the placement of a metallic clip/marker that is visible on mammography.
