Kimtron Inc announced today, the Company has expanded its Oxford, CT manufacturing facility to include the design and fabrication of leaded cabinets, a major component needed to contain X-rays for its product line of x-ray-based biological irradiators. While the company has been designing and producing x-ray components and subsystems for various markets since its inception, the new cabinet fabrication operation adds to Kimtron's technology base and manufacturing knowhow.
David Behnke, Kimtron Production Manager stated; "We believe our new lead fabrication capability will allow us to reduce cost, increase quality and improve customers lead time. Our greatest challenge was bringing this operation on-line in a timely manner, and with OSHA certification. OSHA compliance addresses important issues regarding employee protection and health monitoring, environmental protection, diligent collection & containment of lead chips & scraps and proper remediation of all lead-impregnated protective clothing". Several units have already been delivered from the Oxford, CT facility.
Kimtron CEO Peter Cawley also states; "In a time when out-sourcing and off-shoring are common practice for US-based manufacturers, we believe the design and manufacture of our own components is the most effective means to enhance the company's growth, provide greater employee opportunity and improve agility necessary to respond to individual customer needs. For years we contracted outside firms to produce our cabinets and while the quality was very good, the cost was high and on-time deliveries were inconsistent."

Cawley added; "We believe our cabinets, designed to the strict Aerospace quality standards we've been accustom to over the past 20 years, are the safest on the market and exceed Federal Regulations requirements for radiation containment by up to five times"
