Mission and Student Learning Goals for a Student in Advanced Studies in Physician Assistant (B.S./M.S.)
The mission of the Wagner College Physician Assistant Program is to prepare professionals committed to healthcare and to providing quality care to all individuals.
Wagner is a small residential college, strongly committed to providing an education in which all professional and liberal arts majors receive the foundation of a broad-based core of knowledge. Such an education fosters abilities in inquiry, critical analysis, and individual expression essential for achievement in a changing society.
The academic program provides knowledge of historical and socio-cultural influences that forms a framework for the integration of experiences as well as an awareness and appreciation of one's own and other cultures. Reasoning skills are refined through the study of scientific methodology and quantitative analysis. Sensitivity to human expression and creativity is stimulated through the study of the fine arts. The college also considers important the moral, ethical and spiritual guidelines in which students make significant choices and form meaningful values.
The residential environment complements and enriches the academic programs by enabling social and cultural opportunities for a diverse student body. Wagner's size allows for close interaction among faculty, students, and staff, which contributes to the richness of the educational experience and fosters lifelong relationships.
The required didactic and clinical phases of the Physician Assistant Program at Staten Island University Hospital are designed to build upon the scientific and liberal arts knowledge obtained in the college's liberal arts core curriculum and assist the student in developing the knowledge and skills appropriate for the profession.
