* Major clinical and basic aspects of dermatology covered in the daily formal teaching conferences, which include lectures by the senior faculty, visiting professors and dermatology residents
* Teaching inpatient rounds conducted daily by senior faculty members
* Weekly dermatopathology conference, kodachrome slide presentation, dermatology grand rounds, and journal clubs

First Year (Internship)

* Clinical training in one of the following types of broad-based programs in the U.S., accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), or a similar program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: transitional year, flexible first postgraduate year, and first-year residencies in internal medicine, general surgery, family practice or pediatrics (A residency in a discipline, which does not involve direct patient care, such as pathology, is not acceptable for first postgraduate year credit.)

Second, Third, and Fourth Years (Dermatology Residency)

* Pig's foot workshop for basic surgical technique provided in the first two months of training
* Residents assume progressive responsibility in the management of dermatologic patients
* In the fourth year, residents spend additional time in dermato-pathology and the dermatologic surgery unit
* Residents in all levels are encouraged and expected to attend local and national meetings, including those of the Michigan Dermatological Society and the American Academy of Dermatology

Research

* Wide-ranging clinical research interests: photosensitivity, nail pathology, mycosis fungoides, scleroderma, lupus erythematosus, bullous disease, laser surgery, hair problems, pigmented lesions, cutaneous manifestations of immunologically suppressed patients, aging skin and microbiology of dermatologic conditions, photopheresis, genodermatoses and cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease
* Basic science research program in the molecular biology of melanocytes and immunologic diseases with special emphasis on T-cell lymphomas, connective tissue disease, keloid and bullous disease
