Training at Henry Ford provides residents and fellows with the opportunity to care for a population of patients that is exceptional in both volume and diversity. By serving the metropolitan population of Detroit, as well as the surrounding suburbs, our physicians are exposed to patients from varying ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, with a wide spectrum of illnesses.

Dermatology Residency Program
About the Program
* Advanced - 3 years; 4 position openings
* Categorical - 4 years (including 1 year in Internal Medicine); 2 position openings
* One of the largest dermatology departments in the world
* Great diversity of disease conditions for an excellent clinical experience due to Henry Ford Health Systems' multiple training sites including Henry Ford Hospital (downtown Detroit) and medical centers in Troy, West Bloomfield, Taylor, Ann Arbor and Plymouth. Residents rotate throughout the suburban Henry Ford Medical Centers in their second and third years, which more closely duplicate private practice
* Inpatient service at Henry Ford Hospital has 150 admissions annually
* More than 100,000 dermatology patients seen at the Henry Ford Health System each year. More than 1,000 inpatient consultations from other disciplines provided by the dermatology service annually
* Department manages a psoriasis day care unit for the total treatment of psoriasis and other skin diseases
* Patients with acute and chronic problems referred from dermatologists, primary care physicians, and other specialists provide a broad clinical experience: electrosurgery, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic surgical techniques (such as chemical peels, vein sclerosing, rhinophyma, hair removal and botox injection), nail surgery, cryo-surgery, patch testing, phototesting, photopatch testing, phototherapy, photochemotherapy (PUVA), photopheresis, and laser surgery, including yellow dye-pulsed laser for hemangiomas
* Full-time double boarded pediatric dermatologist
* Dermatologic surgical anatomy and flap and graft surgery through a cadaver program, which is given each year to each resident group
