History of Caring
The history of University Hospitals of Cleveland is linked to the history of Cleveland. Founded in 1866, we were nurtured and supported by Cleveland's great industrial families of the late 19th and early 20th centuries-the same families that played key roles in the development of the city's noted civic and cultural institutions, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Orchestra, and The Cleveland Foundation.
This vision for University Hospitals led in 1895 to our formal ties with what is now the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. As an affiliate of the medical school, we grew to become one of the nation's great centers of academic medicine and the region's leading provider of high quality healthcare. To the people of Greater Cleveland, we came to exemplify hope, mercy and humanity.

University Hospitals of Cleveland is a 947-bed tertiary medical center specializing in adult/pediatric medical and surgical specialties. UHC is also the primary affiliate of Case Western Reserve University. Together, they form the largest center for biomedical research in the State of Ohio.

University Hospitals of Cleveland has earned a reputation for providing the most advanced and compassionate care. To help maintain that standard of excellence, we use various forms of internal quality measurement, as well as national standards of excellence.
Quality Outcomes At University Hospitals of Cleveland, we have developed a quality "scorecard." This measures medical outcomes of various procedures. We use it within the hospital to help identify ways to continually improve the high quality of care we provide.
Patient Satisfaction We also use a special patient satisfaction survey developed by Press Ganey Associates, a nationally respected research firm. This survey measures both quality of care and patient satisfaction. It includes areas such as a patient's satisfaction with physician and nursing care, whether patients would recommend us to others, and a patient's overall assessment of their care.
