MedPortal of Germany Files for Bankruptcy

by Robert Garment, Executive Editor | September 27, 2006
The bankruptcy case
against MedPortal
could take years
to resolve

We heard this week from several reliable DOTmed registered users that Medportal GmbH, Moers, Germany, filed for bankruptcy on the 17th of August 2006.

We confirmed this directly by speaking with Ms. Astrid Smolenski at the Insolvency Office in Krefeld Germany, (Tel.: +49 2821 87-0), where the MedPortal case is being handled. The Bankruptcy File Number is 34 IN 68 / 06. The lawyer in charge of the case is Mr. Dirk Hammes.

Ms. Smolenski said that anyone who believes they are owed money by MedPortal could initiate a claim against the company by emailing her at: smolenski@rae-stock.de -- we have tested this email address and confirmed it is correct.

Her instructions are to describe your claim and supply as much documentation as you can in the email. We suspect that you will need to mail hard copy reproductions of all your documentation at some point in the future.

Ms. Smolenski speaks excellent English as well as German. She told us that anyone filing a claim should be prepared to wait a long time, perhaps several years, before the case is resolved and any money, if there is any, is distributed to the claimants.

As always, DOTmed would appreciate it, and all our users would appreciate it, if you think that any company is in trouble, to let us know so we can investigate and report about it in DOTmed News.

If you have direct dealings with such a company, please use our 5-Star Rating system and give them a low rating. If the many people who are owed money by MedPortal had used our 5-Star system, the signs of their growing financial trouble over the past several months would have been easier to see, and fewer people would have been burned. If a company is good to do business with, please give them a high 5-Star Rating. This is important for all our users to do.
