From the moment we opened our doors more than a half-century ago to the present day, our goal has always been to improve the health and well being of our patients and our community. Keeping this philosophy in mind, Metro Health has evolved over the years from a single hospital to a widespread health system. Metro Health Hospital remains this system's largest venture, but it's only one part of what is now becoming an integrated group of health care organizations known collectively as Metro Health. Today, this distinct group includes physician organizations, outpatient centers, managed care services, and more. As a comprehensive and growing network, our purpose is to provide patients with a more simplified, seamless and personal health care experience.

As a result of this dedication, Metro Health Hospital has established itself as a major teaching hospital for Osteopathic physicians. Our affiliation with the Statewide Campus System of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and our local membership with the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center for Health Professions have strengthened our ability to prepare physicians for the competitive and rapidly evolving health care profession.

We also offer ambulatory care teaching clinics with more than 25,000 visits per year in family practice, OB/GYN, internal medicine, ophthalmology, general surgery and urology.

Family Practice Residency Program

The Family Practice Residency Program at Metro Health Hospital provides clinical experiences in its Breton Health primary care center which features 15 exam rooms and 2 procedure rooms. Family practice residents average 100 patient visits per month.
