Images of Health: Mammograms for a Million Moms
Stamford, CT - Every two minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer, yet more than half of women over the age of 40 do not know how critical breast cancer screening is or do not have the means to get a mammogram regularly. In response, Fujifilm, in collaboration with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), has launched a national public education campaign called Images of Health: Mammograms for a Million Moms. The goal of the program is to help save lives by encouraging over one million more women in America to pledge to get a mammogram by logging onto www.imagesofhealth.com.
Images of Health: Mammograms for a Million Moms, was created by Fujifilm, producers of the world's most widely used digital mammography system, to raise awareness of the life-saving importance of mammography to detect breast cancer. It supports the NBCF mission to save lives through breast cancer education and programs that provide for the screening of underserved women. The campaign is designed not only to educate, but also to motivate, and drive over one million women to pledge to get a mammogram -statistics show that for every 1,000,000 screening mammograms, 1,000 lives could be saved by the early detection of cancer.
A key element of the initiative is a user-friendly and educational Web site, www.imagesofhealth.com. Sponsored by Fujifilm, the site is a comprehensive resource to inform women and their families about mammography. It allows them to share their own breast cancer stories and - most importantly - find a certified mammography facility in their area. Imagesofhealth.com offers a free downloadable brochure about mammography, and a video that demonstrates the mammography process, and testimonials from internationally recognized mammography researchers on the importance of regular mammography screening. Once women or their family members make a pledge online they can also enter a sweepstakes to win a trip to Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Ariz. or La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

"We are excited to help Fujifilm kick off Images of Health: Mammograms for a Million Moms, and have the opportunity to reach millions of women and their families with the life-saving message of early breast cancer detection through mammography," said Janelle Hail, Founder and President of NBCF. Hail, a breast cancer survivor of 26 years, continued, "Screening mammography has been shown to reduce mortality rates by 63 percent. Until there is a cure, we must continue to help women and their families understand the benefits of mammography. We look forward to working with Fujifilm and spreading this message and saving lives through the Images of Health: Mammograms for a Million Moms initiative."
