Mercy International has been around for more than a decade bringing charitable aid to those in need. The Arkansas-based organization has its mission compound in Honduras and serves the indigenous people by bringing manpower and desperately needed supplies. Mercy International works with Heaven's Reach Ministries to bring aid to the country's rural outposts.

In particular the non-profit organization is trying to assist the general hospital serving the town of La Esperanza and local people who live in nearby hills.

Currently the hospital has one IV pump but no hosing or tubing. They have one incubator and that's it. Last summer three babies were born. The first born got the incubator. Of the other two, they kept the stronger baby at the hospital and transferred the weaker one via a five-hour car ride down the mountain to another hospital that had an incubator. The baby left up in the hills didn't survive.


"We are trying to do what we can to get anything and everything to that hospital -- IV pumps, incubators, oxygen tents, gloves, any type of equipment and supplies," said James E. Childress, a CPA in Springdale, Arkansas who is a contributor to the effort.

Donations (see list below) will need to be sent to Arkansas where they will be organized for transport. "We tell the teams that come down to Honduras you each get two suitcases, one is yours, one is ours. That's how we get stuff down there," Childress said.
