A.M. X-Ray Service

A.M. X-Ray Service provides service to Siemens and other multi-vendor medical x-ray imaging systems for cath, angio, mammo and RF imaging, along with OEM parts for Siemens and GE.

“We specialize in enterprise-level imaging service,” said Sam Sandlin, owner of the Miami, Fla.-based corporation. Large hospital customers include facilities in excess of 400 beds. What sets the company apart is their service engineers who have more than 20 years’ experience. “That’s what we’re all about. We’re not a huge outfit but we enjoy a good reputation for service and providing solutions that work,” Sandlin said.

With experience comes technical knowledge and also market savvy. “We see that the service atmosphere is changing so we’re changing as well,” Sandlin said. “We want to go back to our smaller customers. That’s the focus of our mission right now--PACS and CR for smaller facilities…. We want to go back to the small guys because the move from film to filmless is hard for the local clientele to adapt to. Many of the enterprise-level hospitals haven’t even gone to it yet.”

Sandlin noted that strict environmental regulations are pressing the move to filmless medical imaging to eliminate dark rooms and associated chemicals, a particular priority in eco-sensitive South Florida.

“The bottleneck is getting service for processors. It seems that fewer companies are willing to deal with the environmental issues of disposing of the chemicals so it’s getting harder for customers out there…. we’re heading into, the filmless era.”

The transition to PACS and digital imaging will take time. However, as more used equipment comes onto the market through DOTmed and other sources, the higher-level technologies should become more affordable to smaller providers.

“DOTmed is very useful. I have bought a couple of systems and it’s a way for us to be known. I plan on doing more,” Sandlin said.
