IMDA, the association for medical specialty dealers, has changed its name – though not its acronym – to reflect the mission of its members.
Formerly known as the Independent Medical Distributors Association, IMDA’s new name is the Independent Medical Specialty Dealers Association. The IMDA board of directors approved the change in February.
“It’s important that the rest of the supply chain community – particularly, manufacturers of innovative technologies, as well as healthcare providers and supply chain management professionals – know what we do,” said IMDA President Don Sizemore, president, D&D Medical, Goodlettsville, Tenn.

“We are not box-movers, nor are we dealers of commodity products. With experienced sales forces and close relationships with clinical decision-makers in the nation’s hospitals, we help launch new technologies, which can improve patient outcomes and reduce overall costs. We educate clinical staff on how to use these technologies effectively, and we make a case to the ‘economic buyer’ as to why these technologies are cost-effective.”
IMDA will celebrate its new name at its upcoming Annual Conference, May 1-3, in Nashville, Tenn. To learn more about attending, call 1-866-IMDA-YES or 1-866-463-2937 or visit www.imda.org.
