CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- HIFU Prostate Services, the first and most experienced company to provide HIFU treatment for prostate cancer, has partnered with Riverside Urology in Columbus, Ohio and First Urology in Louisville, Kentucky, to bring minimally invasive HIFU to men with prostate disease, including prostate cancer.
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a noninvasive, radiation-free procedure that focuses ultrasound waves to heat and destroy tissue in the prostate during a one-time, outpatient procedure. The FDA cleared HIFU for prostate ablation in October 2015.
Dr. Herb Riemenschneider and Dr. Michael Sweeney, along with HIFU proctor Dr. John Jurige, will offer the noninvasive treatment to qualified men with localized prostate cancer at Knightsbridge Surgery Center. The HIFU treatment center in Columbus is the seventh treatment center that HIFU Prostate Services has established in the country.
