Nihon Kohden's Life Scope G9
Nihon Kohden announced yesterday that it has launched its new Life Scope G9 bedside monitor, that can be customized to each patient regardless of their health status or care setting.

"Nihon Kohden's Life Scope G9 bedside monitor reflects the company's premium-as-standard philosophy," Dr. Wilson Constantine, CEO of Nihon Kohden, told HCB News. "Unlike other bedside patient monitors on the market, Life Scope G9 is fully appointed with all features, both standard and premium, unlocked and ready to use at a moment's notice, making it uniquely ready for any patient, in any clinical setting."

The Life Scope G9 includes a feature that ensures that patients are monitored based on their common metrics and with shared protocols, which can help clinicians improve outcomes. The monitor also has drag-and-drop screen layouts that clinicians can customize to their individual patients’ needs.

To make the patients more comfortable, it has a sleep mode that darkens the bedside screen and disables ECG synch noises and alarm indicators. It also had integrated 12-lead capability to minimize the need to change electrodes and bother the patient with additional stand-alone ECG testing.

When paired with Nihon Kohden’s BSM-1700 transport monitor, the Life Scope G9 continues to record data during transport, which can be one of the most dangerous times in patient care. The BSM-1700 transport monitor captures a comprehensive set of physiologic parameters during transit in a standard configuration.

Nihon Kohden launched another patient monitoring technology early last month called the Aware Alarm Management and Reporting software system, which is designed to help hospitals reduce alarm fatigue. It aggregates alarm data by time, date, and care setting, so the staff can identify the alarms with the highest frequency and develop alarm reporting and data management policies.

“With Aware Alarm Management and Reporting, hospitals can easily produce the reports required to drive data that assists hospitals in meeting the Joint Commission guidelines,” Veffa Devers, vice president of clinical excellence programs at Nihon Kohden, said in a statement. “In addition, the reporting tool can help the hospital quantify the improvements they are able to make through staff education, adjustments and protocols.”
