Can acquire up to
256 bladder slices, and
provide real-time imaging
Signostics’ Uscan, a smart mobile-connected ultrasound visualization device for urological care, has been FDA-approved for urology and other clinical settings.
Uscan uses algorithms to visualize 3-D contours of the bladder, and can acquire up to 256 bladder slices. It also provides real-time ultrasound imaging of the kidneys, pelvic floor, prostate, gallbladder, bladder stones, and catheter emplacement, for doctors to track and observe the region.
“Uscan is available in two versions, the Uscan Tablet Unit, which provides a tablet display on a rolling stand for portable in-clinic use, and the Uscan Handheld, which allows clinicians to carry the device on-the-go,” Kevin Goodwin, CEO of Signostics, told HCB News.

Other than urology, the device can be used in the emergency department, maternity, pediatrics, oncology, rehabilitation, aged care and home nursing.
“Uscan will exceed historical industry standards for bladder volume measurement accuracy, yet will also enable use for other urological imaging needs, reducing the delays and expense of engaging specialized ultrasound equipment or sonographers,” Goodwin said in a statement.
The device is compatible with Android operating systems and has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for physicians to access EHR systems. The company has plans for creating Uscan compatibility with iOS operating systems.
Compared to other mobile-connected ultrasound devices, Uscan has the lowest cost of ownership and has a five year product warranty, with no “fine print” and no annual calibration, according to the announcement.
In January of last year, Signostic’s
hand held bladder scanner, SignosRT Bladder, which can automatically measure bladder volume to prevent urinary tract infections, received 510(k) clearance. The scanner weighs less than one pound and can fit in the palm of one’s hand.
