ETS-Lindgren Enhances Safety of MRI Suites With Ferromagnetic Detection System

by Barbara Kram, Editor | January 09, 2007
ETS-Lindgren has developed its
Ferroguard System to detect metal
objects entering an MRI room
ETS-Lindgren announces the Ferromagnetic Detection System - Ferroguard®, an alarm system that helps detect and warn personnel before an object of significant ferrous metal is brought into the MRI room. The result of a technology partnership agreement between ETS-Lindgren and MetraSens, the system aids in the prevention of patient injury and equipment damage, reducing downtime due to equipment repairs and other related costs.

Ferroguard can be customized in a variety of configurations and be mounted quickly, easily, and unobtrusively. The system can be set to alarm exclusively on significant hazards, such as ferromagnetic gas cylinders, or to have an increased sensitivity, if required. The system also allows harmless non-ferromagnetic objects to pass, resulting in a reduction of false alarms, and does not interfere with electronic medical equipment.

Ferroguard can be used in a variety of applications, most notably hospitals, clinics, research labs, and MRI instrument manufacturing facilities. Ferroguard's unparalleled flexibility allows for custom installations for all architectural site conditions. Portable, pre-screen, entryway and gateway versions of the Ferroguard round out a complete safety package for any facility.
