June 7, 2016, IBA -- IBA (Ion Beam Applications SA), the world’s leading provider of proton therapy solutions for the treatment of cancer has delivered and rigged the accelerator for the very first proton therapy unit in Michigan. The single room facility will be ready for action in 2017.
The construction of the $40 million Proton Therapy Center at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak began in February 2015. Only three months later the full system is now rigged. Thanks to the compact design of the ProteusONE configuration the rigging process was both fast and smooth.
The two-story building is 25,200 square feet, including a basement. The first floor will house the Proton Therapy Center, a 10,000 square foot space which includes a cyclotron and gantry that produces and delivers proton beams to a single-room treatment area. The 8,000 square foot second floor will become the home of Beaumont Children’s Pediatric Oncology and Hematology program. The first patients will be treated in the spring of 2017.

With this build, IBA continues to demonstrate its leadership and ability to deliver projects on time. We currently has many similar projects running not only at Beaumont, but also at Center Antoine Lacassagne in Nice and Proton Partners International in Newport.
