MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2016, two of the region’s leading exhibitions for the medical, healthcare and MedTech was officially opened today by Mr. S Iswaran, Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry). The events will take place concurrently from August 31 – September 2, 2016 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Singapore.

Held biennially, the eleventh edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and third edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA feature several firsts, including the move to a bigger event space at Marina Bay Sands, representing a 20% exhibit space growth to highlight some 1,200 companies from over 40 countries, including first-time country group participations from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as numerous visiting delegations from the region.

Other premieres are the inaugural Asian editions of DiMiMED, the International Conference on Disaster and Military Medicine and the MEDICAL FAIR ASIA Medicine + Sports Conference presented by industry leaders such as Dr. Ben Tan, Head of the Changi Sports Medicine Center and Exercise is Medicine Singapore and Dr. Raymond So, Director of Elite Training Science and Technology of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI).
DiMiMED covers topics including natural disasters and vector-borne diseases such as earthquake disaster relief, management of radiation leaks, threats from Dengue and Zika virus as well as technical subjects on SATCOM (satellite communications) based telemedicine and aeromedical evacuation. The Medicine + Sports conference focuses on topics concerning disease prevention through physical activity and the latest innovations in sports medicine and wearables.

According to the 2016 Global health care outlook report by Deloitte, Asia Pacific’s spending on healthcare will grow at an annual average of 6.6% until 2019, largely driven by rising affluence, consumer spending and the growing older population. In Southeast Asia, innovation is set to take on a bigger role in augmenting traditional care management, coupled with the emergence of new, patient-centric, collaborative business models, wellness and lifestyle-themed health services as well as digital and telehealth initiatives as well as subscription care models and more.
